Emily (Laser) Duba 2009

Emily Duba When did you graduate from HHS and where did you go from here?

I graduated from High School in 2009 as an 18 year old and Mama to a 15 month old. Shortly after graduation I moved to Omaha Nebraska. I was a waitress/stay at home mom/ photographer for 8 years and just recently got my Real Estate License (May 2017)

Can you tell us a little bit about the company you work for?

I work for Christie Plemmons Realty and it is amazing. I create my own work hours which allows me to stay at home with my kiddos. I also shoot Photography. Both for my Real Estate Company and for my own personal business. What does your workday look like?

My work day consists of lots of phone calls, emails, and working with the public. I can do it from the comfort of my home. Showings are interesting. You never really know what you are walking in to or what type of client you will be working with. The best part of my career is closing day. That's when the deals are sealed and you collect a pay check! Photography is my passion. I love seeing someone who is shy let loose and giggle. I like to make my clients feel beautiful/handsome!

Can you tell us what your time at HHS was like?

I had a unique experience when I attended HHS. I was an athlete, had loads of friends and enjoyed the academic challenges. I also went through a slump in school and made choices that created life long challenges. I lost my friends due to poor decision making and become someone that I never thought was possible... With that being said I had very compassionate teachers that supported me with the continuance of my education and were surrounded with peers who wanted to see me succeed.

How did your time at HHS help you now?

Honestly, I think that HHS molded me into being a great Mom, Friend and Co-worker... Mostly for the empathy and care that I was given during the physically, mentally and emotionally rough situations that I put myself in.

Is there a teacher who had a significant impact on your life?

Honestly I would have to say my Dad. Mr. Laser. His classes were interactive and fun. I am a hands on learner and his biology class was just that... hands on and fun. Advice for current students? High school is not just now... You will be remembered for the choices you made. Decide who you want to be and be confident in that.
