FIVE HEADED TO ANAHEIM

Business Professionals of America is a dynamic youth organization which provides leadership and business opportunities for high school students to prepare them in their selection as they make decisions on their future careers.  The skills that students learn through participating in a variety of business experiences are beneficial and will help prepare them for a career in the workforce.

The BPA State Leadership Conference took place March 14-17 at the Amway Grand in Grand Rapids.  At this conference, students participated in business related events competing for top spots. Multiple Hornets made their way to the stage at the 53rd Annual Conference.  Forty-five high school students made the trip along with their three advisors and three chaperones.

Exchange student, Lara Neumann, was the state champion in fundamental accounting, and sophomores Grace Shreffler and Ella Springer were crowned state champions in Intermediate Word Processing and Graphic Design Promotion, respectively.  Shreffler will also be joined by teammate, Sarah Korn, who placed third in Intermediate Word Processing. Neumann also earned a bronze medal for Financial Math and Analysis Concepts. These four students will travel to Anaheim, California, May 1-5, 2019, along with classmate John Maier.

Other Hornets who made their way on stage included:  John Maier ‘21 who placed 5th in Economic Research Project (also a national qualifier). The Parliamentary Procedure Team of: Sarah Shreffler ‘19, Emily Kimball ‘19, Maddie Moore ‘20, Rachel Rufenacht ‘20, Abby Baxter ‘20, John Maier ‘21, and Grace Vondra ‘21 placed 5th. Breanna Bildner ‘19 placed 7th in Advanced Word Processing and the Global Marketing Team of Katlyn Throop, Mia Vander Hoff, Vanessa Brown, and Muriel Mackie also placed 7th.

The Administrative Support Team of Hunter Sharp, Jada Miller, Kara Horn, and Reilly Powell placed 8th, Melanie Foust placed 9th in Interview Skills, and Ella Lewis placed 10th in fundamental desktop publishing.

Breanna Bildner, Brylee Boyd, Emily Kimball, Ella Lewis, Maddie Moore, Leah Reiniche, Hunter Sharp, Sarah Shreffler, and Grace Vondra were awarded the Statesman Torch Award.  Given at the state level, the Statesman Torch Award requires 50 points in each Torch category. A Statesman is defined as “one who is a leader in the promotion of the public good and in national affairs.”

Business Professionals of America is full of bright, young people wishing to enter a business professional career.  This beneficial organization is helping our youth to have a brighter future.
