Stephanie (Green) Gordon 2005

Stephanie Gordon When did you graduate from HHS and where did you go from here?

I graduated in 2005. I graduated in 2009 from Albion College in Albion, MI with a bachelor of arts degree in English and journalism. During my senior year, I spent six months in New York City as a full-time production intern at NBC Nightly News. During that time, I learned new passions and took a job in Detroit practicing public and media relations. I moved back home to Hillsdale in 2012 after marrying my husband, Dr. Matt Gordon, and currently practice contract marketing work.

Can you tell us a little bit about the company you work for?

I work for myself and practice marketing consulting out of my own home! I also run a blog/website.

What does your workday look like?

It depends on my work load at the time, but I usually balance work and my two toddler girls, Eloise and Flora, all day. There is no rhyme or reason to my schedule, but I'm happy about my flexibility!

Can you tell us what your time at HHS was like?

I was involved with track and golf and really enjoyed writing and editing for The Emissary. I am thankful for the friendships I made because several of us still keep in touch.

How did your time at HHS help you now?

I believe a lot of my teachers and peers built me up - meaning they gave me plenty of confidence to pursue my goals - which still resonates today.

Is there a teacher who had a significant impact on your life?

Mrs. Derenzy! She's the one who really pushed me to start my journalism/marketing career.

Advice for current students?

I think many students are focused on finishing school or getting out of Hillsdale quickly - maybe wishing the younger years away. Hang on to these days and years. Get involved in school. Play sports. Make new friends. Be nice. Be active in the community. Keep your goals in mind, but don't forget to have fun. Before you know it, you'll be responsible for more than homework. These are the good days!
