HORNETS SUCCEED AT STATE COMPETITION: 13 ADVANCE TO NATIONALS
From March 13-20, 2021, Hillsdale High School’s BPA club participated in their first virtual State Leadership Conference. After competing virtually for the regional competition in January, students were more confident going into their second round of virtual competitions. Students from Hillsdale’s Business Professionals of America chapter gathered in the high school gymnasium to watch the live results for the State Leadership Conference. During the presentation various state council members spoke, and Advisor Mindy Eggleston was recognized statewide as the recipient of the Barbara Chambers Outstanding Advisor of the Year.
As students watched the live awards, cheers erupted as Hornets were named among top place rankings earning spots in the National Leadership Conference (NLC) to take place in May. Two teams and nine individuals grabbed spots in the State Leadership Conference. Placing 2nd in the Administrative Support Team competition were Brylee Boyd, Jack Granata, Sarah Korn, and Grace Shreffler. A second team qualified for the National Leadership Conference in the Computer Animation competition consisting of: Austin Hall, Kaigan Keeney, Jonah Richards, and Ben Taylor.
Sarah Korn 21’ received 5th place in Advanced Word Processing, while fellow Senior, Grace Shreffler, clinched the 1st place spot in the same competition making her the only Hornet State Champ in a competition this year. Other individuals qualifying for the National Conference included Junior Stella McCourry (5th place) in Intermediate Word Processing and (10th) in Personal Financial Management, Sophomore Jack Granta (5th place) in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, Sophomore Hannah Baker (2nd place) in Fundamental Desktop Publishing, Senior Ella Springer (5th place) in Graphic Design Promotion, Senior Hailey Granata (5th place) in Human Resource Management, Senior Grace Vondra (5th place) in Extemporaneous Speech, and Senior Makaiha Donahue (8th place) in Personal Financial Management. In addition, three Hornet students earned their Statesman Torch Award which is a program designed to promote professionalism and leadership through an ongoing resume. Students earning this distinction include: Brylee Boyd, Leah Reiniche, and Grace Shreffler.
The National Leadership Conference which was set to take place in Orlando, Florida this year, will now be hosted virtually during the first week of May. In the meantime, BPA Hornet NLC qualifiers will work to hone their business skills within their respective competitive areas.
