Update 3-23-21

March 23, 2021

Good Afternoon,

This is the time of year where days have more sunlight but somehow they can feel shorter!  Hopefully that is because we are getting the most of each day.  There are lots of positive events in the fourth quarter of this school year.  Below is a list of some of the upcoming events.  Checking out the district calendar on the website (www.hillsdaleschools.org) is a great way to stay informed and to see even more events for students and families at all of the schools.

COVID-19 Quarantine Rules Changed for Those Who are Fully Vaccinated

The length of quarantine for fully vaccinated individuals has changed.  Previously, fully vaccinated people 14 days past their 2nd dose (or 1st dose of J&J vaccine) were exempt from quarantine requirements for the next 90 days.  There is now no limitation on fully vaccinated individuals.  Once they are 14 days past their final vaccination they do not need to quarantine after a close contact exposure, provided they show no symptoms.

Spring Sports & Extra-curricular Clubs

The MDHHS has new procedures in place for student athletes at the middle and high school level sports for the spring seasons.  This new process involves weekly “rapid testing” for most sports.  The tests can be performed at the school, under the supervision of trained staff.  The results usually take about 5 minutes.  As I stated above, each athlete must be tested at least weekly in order to participate in practices/competitions.  Facemasks are continued in most sports.  The updated MDHHS Health Order is effective April 2 - April 19.  Below is a link to the full details.

Each school in the district is planning academic programming to support students who need additional time for learning and enhancement opportunities.   Additional details will be forthcoming from each school building.  There will be a focus on reading and mathematics for all levels.  And credit recovery will be available for high school students at both HHS and Horizon.
