Special Update for COVID News 12.7.2020

The State of Michigan's, Department of Health and Human Services has extended the existing health order through December 20, 2020.  This order applies to high school students only.  Bailey Early Childhood Center, Gier Elementary School and Davis Middle School will remain open for in-person instruction.

As a result, Hillsdale High School and Horizon High School will continue with remote learning during this time. (The same exceptions are in place for special education students and students who need internet access.)  This means high schools will remain using the Virtual (online) Learning until Christmas Vacation.  School sports programs, clubs, extra-curricular activities continue to be paused during this time as well.  This includes no in-person practices or competitions during this same timeframe.

MDHHS also identified three key metrics that will be utilized in determining whether to slowly reopen at the end of the 12 days. Specifically, the department will be looking closely at the percentage of hospital beds with COVID patients, the number of COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate. With improvements in those numbers in context, MDHHS will carefully reopen, with in-person learning at high schools first. Next in line will be entertainment venues where people can maintain consistent masking, such as casinos, theaters and bowling, with concessions closed.
