Update 12.1.2020

12-1-2020

High School Students Update:

The statewide closure of all high schools and colleges is in effect November 18 - December 8 (three weeks).  Hillsdale High School and Horizon Alternative High School are scheduled to reopen for in-person learning on Wednesday, December 9.

Planning for the Second Semester (January 25-June 11):

The District has confirmed the plan for continuation of the Extended COVID-19 Learning Plan.  This provides families with two options for attending school.

  Option A - In-person at School

Option B - Virtual (online) at Home

Can a student change their school program option for the second semester?

YES: Any student may change their plan for the second semester.

If I want my child to continue with his/her current program option (Virtual or In Person) do I have to complete any forms or paperwork?

NO: Every student will remain in their current program option unless the family makes a change.

If my child is currently a Virtual (online) Student, how do I change his/her school program option to return to in-person learning at school for the second semester?

Students who are currently virtual (online) should complete the online survey by December 4. This survey was sent directly to the families of all online students.  Please contact your student’s teacher directly by email if you need any copy of the survey or if you have any questions about the survey.

Why does the school need to know if online students want to come back to in-person learning at school for second semester?

Designing the master schedule for grades 7-12 and creating classroom lists for K-6 includes multiple subjects with many teachers and students.  The schools need to know which students want to attend in person to ensure we create the correct type and amount of classes for the students.

If my child currently attends school in person, how do I change his/her school program option for the second semester to become a virtual (online) student?

If a family wants their child to change from in-person learning to become a Virtual (online) Student for the second semester, a transfer form will be available to complete January 4-8.  (After Christmas Vacation)

What if our family doesn’t know yet if we want our child to attend school in person or online for the second semester?

It is most important right now for the school to plan for the students who will be or will likely be attending in person for the second semester.  This is important to plan for social distancing, class sizes and the course options for grades 7-12.  With our flexible online curriculum package the school can more easily transfer a student to become a virtual (online) student.  That is why there will be an option after Christmas Break to switch to the online learning option.

What if I have specific questions about my child’s school options for second semester that have not been answered here?

Our goal is to help your family make a good decision for your child.  The school staff respects your decision and we realize that families have different needs and providing options is a good thing.  Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s teachers directly or the school principal to discuss any additional questions or concerns.
