Special Update for 10.14.2020

Special Update for 10-14-2020

This COVID related information update is provided to all families (all schools) in the Hillsdale Community Schools District.  A short time ago, a dedicated communication (email and phone message) was sent out to families of Davis Middle School.

Davis Middle School (all grades 5-8) will implement its Distance Learning Program starting tomorrow, October 15 through October 28.  Students will not attend school in person during this time period; the teachers will implement the Distance Learning Program where students will participate in learning through virtual lessons at home.

The school is taking this action in response to positive test results of “School Associated Cases”.  The term “School Associated Case” means…

A case of probable or confirmed COVID-19 amongst students, teachers, staff members, coaches, volunteers, or any other person who was present on school property or at a school function under circumstances that may result in the transmission or contraction of COVID-19 during their infectious period.

The school was notified of two new confirmed cases today, Wednesday, October 14.  One of these persons was previously identified as a Close Contact of another case, was tested and had recently begun to quarantine.

The second case reported today is not known to be associated with that other situation because there are no known Close Contacts at this time and therefore is being assessed as a separate situation.  The contact tracing is in progress through the Health Department.

It has been determined that implementing a pause with in-person learning at the middle school is a prudent and appropriate course of action.

The change to Distance Learning applies to the middle school only because there are no other reported positive cases associated with any of the other schools at this time.

In-person learning is scheduled to resume at the middle school on Thursday, October 29.

Below is the COVID Data for all schools in the district updated today with all reported cases since the beginning of school this year.

COVID-19 DASHBOARD

Hillsdale Community Schools will use this webpage to provide Public Notice to our School Community regarding School Associated Cases of COVID-19.  Within 24 hours of being notified of a School Associated Case by the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, this dashboard will be updated to include new and cumulative COVID-19 case counts. Individuals identified as Close Contacts of School Associated Cases will be notified separately and directly by the health department.
