Update 9.23.2020
Update for 9-23-2020
The restart of schools is a very good thing! The first two weeks of school this year have gone quite well overall. Dealing with many new procedures for students can be overwhelming at times. Parents, you really are doing great with all of this!
In-person students and their families have done an amazing job with returning to school. Bringing students to school at the designated drop off times and pick up times is so very helpful. Thank you parents! Thank you for keeping your children home from school when they are not feeling well, have symptoms that are consistent with COVID or when the student or a household member has been in contact with a person who has a confirmed or suspected case of COVID. The best way we can continue to have in-person learning is for all of us to monitor our health and be cautious to not attend school if we are questionable.
The online learning programs are also in progress. The district has used the Edgenuity program (Grades 6-12) for many years and staff are well versed in that platform. There are lots of elective course options in this platform which is great to match up student interest with elective classes. The Accelerate Learning Program (Grades K-5) is a new learning platform and our elementary staff are focused on building their user knowledge and being helpful to the students and their parents. Having a daily routine for school days helps most students to establish a routine and develop the study skills important to success with an online learning program. All students have teachers assigned to them. Frequent communication with the teacher and student is another great way to help students engage more in their learning.
Change for Three (3) Days From In-person to Virtual Learning Format: October 2, November 6 and November 25
These school days were originally scheduled for half days, but these will become virtual learning days. Students will not come to school on the days listed above. The tiered busing system has been working well to provide social distancing and aligns well with the staggered drop-off system at school. With the implementation of the tiered bus system, there is a 45 minute stagger to the start of the day and a 70 minute stagger at the end of the day. So on a half day, this would result in about one hour of face-to-face instruction. Therefore, changing these days to “virtual learning days” makes a lot of sense.
Each school will provide specific and more detailed information to students and families. Below is a sketch of the schedule/expectations for the virtual learning days.

Reminder, all meals (including these take-home meals) are provided to all students at no cost until further notice. Taking home meals for the half days is certainly not a requirement for students. We are pleased to provide this as an option for all students.
