Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad/STEM is a group of students who work collaboratively to complete various scientific activities.  Activities and events range in scientific concepts. The goals of Science Olympiad are to improve the quality of science education and increase interest in science, foster collaboration, enhance Hillsdale Community Schools’ science curriculum, and celebrate learning.

This is Hillsdale Community Schools’ third year having a team in the elementary school. The first year, our SO team was comprised of 3rd and 4th graders. This past year, we expanded to include our 5th graders. Students are invited by teachers to participate in an after school Science Olympiad club for a few months, from this club we form our competitive team. Our previous competitive teams worked in life science, earth science, engineering, aerodynamics, and physics to name a few. For the past two years, Hillsdale Community Schools participated in a tri-county competition at Siena Heights University. We not only had an amazing time at the competition, we placed in the top 3 overall in all grade levels.  Hillsdale Community Schools’ Elementary Science Olympiad team is coached by Brianna Crall (head coach), Chelsea Crall (assistant coach), and Amy Webb (parent volunteer).
