    Mrs. Wilson's Weekly Lesson Plans

    (These plans are tentative and sometimes change based upon the needs of my students and our pace in the classroom.)

     

    English 7

    • 10/18: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 7 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday. Review chapter one- model summarization of the chapter using Google Slides.  
    • We will read and discuss chapter 2 of the novel, Where the Red Fern Grows.
    • 10/19: Mini-lesson: Character traits of the main character in Where the Red Fern Grows; Students will complete a graphic organizer for the character. Read chapter 3 of the novel. 
    • 10/20: Comprehension quiz, chapters 1-3 will be given.  We will read/discuss chapter 4 of the book.
    • 10/21: Chapters 1-4 comprehension questions in Google Classroom.  Bio-poem assignment will be given.
    • 10/22: Reading logs due-Week 8; Spelling Unit 7 Test will be given;  We will be reading chapter 5/ discussing/summarizing.

     

    Advanced ELA:

    • 10/18: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 7 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday. 
    • Lesson will be focused on who Anne Frank was and a video about her life will be shown.
    • 10/19: Students will read an article about Anne Frank's family and the other people who hid in the Secret Annex during the time of the Holocaust.  
    • 10/20: Mini-lesson on flashback.  We will read Act I, Scene I of The Diary of Anne Frank.
    • 10/21: A diary project will be assigned and students will have time to work on that.
    • 10/22: Reading logs due-Week 8; Spelling Unit 7 Test will be given; Read Act I, Scene II of The Diary and answer comprehension questions.

     

     

     

     

    English 7

    • 10/11: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 6 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  **BOOK TALKS are DUE TODAY in Google Classroom. **
    • 10/12: Finish any remaining book talks.  Introduction to narrative unit of study- Where the Red Fern Grows.
    • 10/13: We will begin reading chapter 1 of Where the Red Fern Grows.
    • 10/14: Discuss chapter 1 of the novel/questioning will follow. Textual evidence mini-lesson using clues from chapter 1.
    • 10/15: Reading logs due-Week 7; Spelling Unit 6 Test will be given; Reading research assignment in Google Classroom. 

     

    Advanced ELA:

    • 10/11: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 6 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  **BOOK TALKS are DUE TODAY in Google Classroom. **
    • 10/12: Finish any remaining book talks.  
    • 10/13: Introduction to The Diary of Anne Frank - Present historical background information.
    • 10/14: Background info day 2- The Diary of Anne Frank.  Notes/discussion/ Pre-reading assignment in Google Classroom
    • 10/15: Reading logs due-Week 7; Spelling Unit 6 Test will be given; Finish pre-reading assignment in Google Classroom.

     

     

     

     

     

     

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 10/4: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 5 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  Memoir lesson: Adding sensory adjectives/figurative language
    • 10/5: Memoir: Final editing/proofreading: ** MEMOIRS due by the end of the hour today. **
    • 10/6: Book talks for 1st quarter will be assigned and are due Monday, October 11.
    • 10/7: Google Slides oral presentation work time
    • 10/8: Reading logs due-Week 6; Spelling Unit 5 Test will be given; Google Slides oral presentation work time

     

     

     

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 9/27: NO SCHOOL-Fair Day!
    • 9/28: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 4 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  Memoir writing rough draft time/begin publishing in Google Classroom.  
    • 9/29: Memoir revision lesson: Bold beginnings; Students will write three different new beginnings to their memoirs.
    • 9/30: Memoir lesson: Adding sensory adjectives
    • 10/1: Reading logs due-Week 5; Spelling Unit 4 Test will be given; Memoir lesson: Adding figurative language 

     

     

    Plans for the Week of September 20-24:

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 9/20: The spelling post-test will be given for Unit 3.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  The logs will be posted each Monday on Google Classroom.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  Students will be taking the DRA test.  (reading assessment)
    • 9/21: Memoir lesson: Review memoir; Selecting Your Topic activities/Pre-writing
    • 9/22: Memoir lesson: Writing rough drafts of memoirs- how do I begin?
    • 9/23: Memoir lesson: Rough draft writing of memoir-how to write an effective conclusion
    • 9/24: 1/2 Day- Reading logs due-Week 4; Complete rough drafts of memoirs; Peer conference groups will meet to share first drafts of memoirs.

    Plans for the Week of September 13-17:

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 9/13: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 3 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  The logs will be posted each Monday on Google Classroom.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday.  Students will finish their persuasive essay pre-assessment.
    • 9/14: Introduction to memoir-what is it?  What is in the heart of memoir? Make heart maps.
    • 9/15: Students will be assigned mentor texts in the memoir writing genre.
    • 9/16: Memoir text reading/questions
    • 9/17: Reading logs due-Week 3; Spelling Unit 3 Test will be given; Memoir lesson: Selecting Your Topic/Pre-writing

     

    Plans for the Week of September 6-10:

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 9/6: No School-Labor Day
    • 9/7: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 2 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be assigned for the week.  The logs will be posted each Monday on Google Classroom.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Tuesday-Thursday this week and the logs are due each Friday.  
    • 9/8: Day 1 Writing Pre-assessment (persuasive essay)
    • 9/9: Day 2 Writing Pre-assessment (persuasive essay)
    • 9/10: Reading logs due-Week 2; Spelling Unit 2 Test will be given; Publish essays-turn in to Google Classroom.

     

     

    Plans for the Week of August 30-September 3:

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 8/30: The spelling pre-test will be given for Unit 1 and students will get a spelling list to study for the week.  Reading logs will be discussed and assigned for the week.  The logs will be posted each Monday on Google Classroom.  Students will need to read 20 minutes Monday-Thursday and the logs are due each Friday. (This week since there is no school on Friday, the logs will be due Thursday.) "Where I'm From" poetry lesson plan 
    • 8/31: "Where I'm From" poetry lesson plan continued
    • 9/1: Continue working on poems.  We will be using Chromebooks to type them.  
    • 9/2: Reading logs due-Week 1; Spelling Unit 1 Test will be given;Finish publishing poems/share favorite lines with classmates
    • 9/3:  No School-Enjoy the long weekend!

     

    Plans for the Week of August 23-27:

    English 7/Advanced ELA:

    • 8/23:No School
    • 8/24: Welcome/course syllabus/safety protocols/activity
    • 8/25: Letter to Myself activity; Google Slides-All About Me
    • 8/26: Cursive; Google Slides-All About Me continued
    • 8/27: Spelling Achievement Pre-Test will be given; Present Google Slides to the class.
