• Course Description:

The seventh grade math curriculum follows the common core curriculum and focuses on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.  This year there will be a focus on the standards for mathematical practices. Students will be expected to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others, model with mathematics, use appropriate tools strategically, attend to precision, look for and make use of structure, and to look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge through homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and projects.

    Grading Criteria:

Student grades will be calculated as follows: 70% of the final grade is assessments, 30% is daily work and participation

Recommended Daily Materials for This Course:

    Pencils

    Pens

    Folder for math notes/handouts

    Highlighters

Independent reading book (to be reading if finish work early)
    Positive attitude!

     Work ethic

    Re-Take Policy:

    • Students may re-take any assessments they want. They have to meet with the teacher and demonstrate progress before retaking the assessment. *There is also a form to fill out.

    Classroom Rules & Expectations:

1.) Be respectful of teachers, peers, and yourself.

2.) Follow directions the first time they are given.

3.) Be in your seat when class starts and begin working on the Boardwork. (daily assignment on board)

4.) Raise your hand and wait to be called on during class discussions.

5.) At all times, allow your teachers to teach and the other students to learn.

6.) Come prepared to class--Bring textbook, notebook, folder, pen, and PENCILS to class daily.

    Late Work Policy:

For all homework assignments- Late homework WILL be accepted at 60% its worth.
On rare occasions, events occur that make it impossible for a student to finish his/her homework on time.  If this happens, the parent should write an explanatory note or call me so that I will not penalize the student for circumstances beyond his/her control.
I expect all late work to be completed so that the students will still have a chance to learn the new material.
